Welcome to Regan's Martial Arts.

Our Philosophy

  • We avoid ego and politics-We are a Non Political Mixed Martial Arts group sharing and exchanging our knowledge in order to become complete martial artist. We offer complete courses and certifications in all Arts listed on this site. When we use the term Mixed Martial Arts we mean it in a big way! We differ from the modern label of Mixed Martial Arts in which they really only mix Muay Thai, Grappling , Boxing, and Greco Wrestling. We do not ignore the benefits of traditional arts for combat. For ring sports we do limit our training to the modern MMA approach, but for self defense for the street we include mixing from all the arts we have learned including traditional Gong Fu
  • We have teachers who specialize- Most of our teachers have vast backrounds in various Arts before beginning Cross Training. We have teachers teaching in several locations, you can find their info on the Instructors page. Aside from fighting, Martial Arts is a way of life for us! We have not just taken bits and pieces from different arts overnight and strung them together, we have learned the arts from a-z and continue to do so.
  • Their is no best Martial Art-We believe that all arts have great techniques and all specialize at a certain range or ranges. We feel their is no "BEST ART" however their is bound to be a 'BEST ART FOR YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL". Everyone has different likes and dislikes, and everyone has different body types and skill sets, so some people will gravitate towards certain arts because it suits that individual best.
  • Who have we studied with? The secret to success is not only in which art you choose, but in which art you can find great Instructors to teach you.  We have been fortunate in that Dan Regan has trained with such greats as Gokor Chivichyan(Sombo,MMA), James Boran(Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), Gary Lam(Wong Shun Leung Ving Tsun), Herman Suwanda(Mande Muda Silat), Li Tailiang(Dai/Che Xingyi,Bagua), Remy Presas(Modern Arnis), Dan Inosanto(JKD/Kali),Pedro Sauer(Gracie Jiu Jitsu), Marcos Santos (Machado Jiu Jitsu), Erwin Mosqueda (Doce Pares Eskrima), Don Edwards(Doce Pares Eskrima), Mark Williams (Hung Suen Wing Chun)and more. Dan spared no expense trying to learn from the best Instructors he could find. After many years of training and mixing it up with other great Martial Arts teachers and students, Dan decided to form his own crosstraining syllabus as well as individual syllabus for several arts in order to share the material with others.
  • Why doesn't Gong Fu work in the cage? This is big statements we see all over the net,  and we really say the same thing, all arts are modified for the ring and some people are able to use their traditional arts in that arena, however many cannot. Think back before UFC became big, people have always defended themselves on the street, even without any training, so realistically speaking the street and the cage are different. MMA fighters will also do well in the street, however do not think that because an art is not great in the sport arena means that it  does not work at all. Boxers get killed in MMA, yet we have seen countless boxers knock people out in bars and clubs and on the street. The people attacking you on the street will not be mma superstars! At this stage of the game, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on it's own wont even  get you very far in MMA fights, but it is a great art on its own for self defense on the street.
  • What if I have a handicap? One of the biggest obstacles a teacher faces in teaching Martial Arts is that so many people train for so many different reasons. Some people want to fight, some are Police Officers and want self defense, some people want to compete, some people have anxiety or depression and want to gain confidence, and others want to explore the cultural as well as physical side of Martial Arts . Dan Regan has the unique ability to teach each private student in any area mentioned whereas many teachers focus on competition only, or focus on cardio workout more than practical defense. Dan has been a teacher in various sports his whole life, he has coached soccer teams, basketball teams, and was a college Professor, along with having years of teaching Martial Arts. Their is no pressure to keep up with the class if you are in a group class, we ask you to give your best and be respectful, but we understand that each person has different issues in their own life and have different circumstances that allow them to train with or without limitations. The idea we stress is to train free of injuries and to train for the long haul! Dan himself has many lifelong injuries from some of the bad teachers he has had during his journeys that ran each class like an ego filled pitfight in which injuries were all too common. Todays pro fighters train much smarter than in the early MMA days and we follow that idea.
  • Gong Fu is outdated! Anything that does not work is outdated, however Good Gong Fu will always be around and works very well. The problem is that it is rare to see functional Traditional Styles. Trust us, It's not the art, but the lack of teachers that teach in a practical way. If you train forms all day and sticking hand drills without hitting pads and sparring, then of course you will not be functional against a skilled opponent. Forms do have their place in various arts, but forms were designed to be trained mostly when you are alone. When you have a partner to train with, most of that time should be spent on 2 man application drills and sparring and focus mitt drills, etc. We have traveled, searched  and trained with some great Gong Fu guys and their methods work fine. IT'S THE INDIVIDUAL, NOT THE ART!

Should I Cross Train or pick an individual Art to study?

Learning a crosstraining approach to combat has the advantage of being able to take your opponent out of his element. If your opponent is a better striker than you, you can take him to the ground and have the advantage. If your opponent is better skilled than you on the ground, you can use your weapons knowledge to defend yourself with your weapon of choice, etc. Many arts are weak in a certain area, and knowing a variety of strategies enables you to have the upper hand. On the other side of the coin is the fact that when training multiple arts, you should look to major in one Art so that you can truly dive deep into the Art and understand all concepts theories and be able to manifest that art within your movement in a natural way. If you want to learn to defend yourself quickly and have more tools in your toolbox when facing various opponents, then cross training is best. If you want to Master something, and love a particular Art then you should focus on that one Art. It is all up to you, Regan's Martial Arts is open to all ideas and we have plenty of material to share!

To master any form of martial arts can take a lifetime, so it's up to the individual if they want to pursue specific training at Regan's Martial Arts. Many people want to add Wing Chun trapping to their style, or add BJJ submissions, etc without learning a whole new system. We offer private lessons suited to the individual. Some students choose to learn to fight, some want only basic self defense, some want a good workout, while others pursue healing methods. Whatever your choice, We can help you to reach your goal! Mr Regan has earned a very good reputation within the Martial Arts community and shares information with many teachers and students. If he is unable to help you with your training for any reason, it is quite possible he will be able to refer you to an associate who can help.
